Lemon Squeezy store activation: passing the review

Updated August 2026 · verify specifics against Lemon Squeezy's current docs — processes change

Lemon Squeezy lets you build your store first and sell second: the store exists immediately, but payments only go live after an activation review. Like Paddle and Polar, Lemon Squeezy is a merchant of record — they resell your product, inherit your chargebacks, and underwrite accordingly.

What the activation review checks

  • The store itself. Real product listings with honest descriptions and real pricing — not placeholder products created to get through review.
  • Your website. The same copy audit every platform runs: vocabulary implying unsolicited contact, guarantees, income claims, or restricted categories (the list). The store and the marketing site should describe the same product.
  • Deliverability of what you sell. For SaaS: the product should exist and be seeable — live app, demo, or convincing walkthrough. Digital products with nothing behind them are the fraud pattern MoRs are built to catch.
  • Legal pages and identity. Terms, privacy, refunds on your site (checklist), and a consistent business identity across store, site, and application.

Check your own copy in 30 seconds. The free Audeza scanner flags the phrases payment platforms treat as risk signals — and suggests safer wording. No signup.

Common holdups

  • Submitting with an empty or placeholder marketing site while the store looks finished (reviewers check both).
  • Category adjacency without clarification — email tooling, social tools, anything with "automation" in the pitch needs the explicit human-in-the-loop / opt-in sentence.
  • Unanswered follow-up emails. Activation reviews frequently include a question or two; the clock stops until you reply.
  • Refund policy contradicting the checkout terms.

If activation stalls or is refused

Fix the site, reply stating what changed, and ask directly what remains blocking. Independent underwriting means a refusal here doesn't follow you: Paddle (guide) and Polar (our teardown) run their own reviews, and the fundamentals you fix for one carry to all of them — that's the point of the pre-flight checklist.
