Form Ranger alternative
Switching from Form Ranger?
Audeza Choice Sync does the same core job: it fills a Google Forms question's choices from a Google Sheet column. The difference is what happens when something goes wrong, and how much of your Google account it can open.

Why "fails loudly" matters
With a populate add-on, you usually learn about a broken sync from a respondent who couldn't find their name. A renamed header, a cleared column or a deleted tab can empty the list. It's a recurring complaint in Form Ranger's recent reviews: lists replaced or emptied with no error message.
Audeza Choice Sync treats an empty result as an error, never as a new list. The question keeps its last good choices, the sidebar says what broke ("header Name not found in row 1"), and you get an email from alerts@audeza.com with a Fix link. At most one email per question and error a day.
Permissions
Form Ranger asks to "see, edit, create, and delete all Google Drive files" and all Google Sheets spreadsheets, and to send email as you. Broad access like that is common in older add-ons, and it's a frequent reason school IT admins block one.
Audeza Choice Sync uses drive.file: it can open only the spreadsheet you pick in Google's file picker, and only the form it's open in. It doesn't copy your sheet values or form responses to our servers. Details are in the privacy policy.
Limited slots without formulas
To make a sign-up list shrink in Form Ranger, you build a second column with COUNTIF formulas against the responses sheet, and point the question at that. Here you turn on Remove a choice once it has been picked enough times. Each choice can be picked once by default, or set a limit per row from a column (12 seats for one workshop, 30 for another). Delete a response and the slot opens again.
What stays the same
- Dropdown, multiple choice, checkbox and grid questions.
- Choices update after each response and when you click Sync. We also sync every hour.
- Google Forms allows at most 1,000 choices per question, for every add-on. If a column grows past that, ours stops and keeps the current choices.
- Neither add-on can react the instant you edit the sheet, because Google doesn't let Forms add-ons watch a spreadsheet for edits.
When to keep Form Ranger
Form Ranger is free with no question limit, and it has worked for millions of people. If your lists rarely change, nobody minds checking the form by hand, and your admin allows its permissions, it may be all you need.
Audeza Choice Sync is free for 3 linked questions per form, with every feature included. Pro removes the limit for $49 a year or $6 a month. It's built for forms where a broken list costs you something: conference sign-ups, room bookings, class registrations.
Switch in five minutes
- Install Audeza Choice Sync from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- In your form, open Add-ons (puzzle icon) > Audeza Choice Sync > Open, and click Link.
- Pick the same question and column you used in Form Ranger. The preview shows the exact choices before you save.
- Save and sync, then turn off the question in Form Ranger so the two don't overwrite each other.
